“Lights in Goa” was initiated in 2010 to spread the word on good practice in Architectural Lighting Design and to keep the industry in India and the surrounding nations abreast with the latest design trends and technologies.
The first edition comprised a three-day seminar with six international design professionals and educators, which was widely attended by participants from 13 countries.
The second edition in 2011 was a full-scale PLDA practical workshop with concepts designed and realised for six sites in five days, followed by conference papers given by leading design professionals on the last day.
The third edition held in January 2014 was a two-day seminar that addressed various design aspects, with a view to engaging municipal decision-makers, especially in the city of Panaji. The idea was to realise the first ever Lighting Masterplan in India in Panaji, Goa. The Government of Goa welcomed the suggestions and was impressed by this edition of Lights in Goa.
The fourth edition of Lights in Goa shifted the venue to Bengaluru the Garden City and a preferred IT destination to take the educational initiative of good practice in Lighting Design to a new level, addressing a larger audience in the metro city. The upscaling of this event was deemed necessary, given that the industry as a whole can only gain from a larger audience adept at taking the correct decisions with regard to lighting design.
Lights in Goa returned to home base, Goa, for the 2017 edition to reinforce the original concept behind the event: to spread & share the lighting knowledge and know-how.
Now in its sixth edition, early in February 2019, Lights in Goa promises to transcend the trajectory of lighting seminars to date and will be focusing on Lighting Education, Sustainable Lighting Practice, and the Future of Lighting Design. The afternoon session on Day One will offer attendees the opportunity to take part in mini practical workshops or discussions. An impressive array of speakers is destined to achieve revolutionary dimensions!
KJS Events LLP is run by Directors, Ar Kapil Surlakar, Eng James Andrade & Ar Sacheen Pai Raikar.
Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of interdisciplinary learning in the field of Lighting Education, expand their knowledge of user-oriented lighting design, understand how light and darkness can be applied within cultural contexts and understand how to embark on a career in lighting.
Mini practical workshops enable attendees to gain hands-on experience on the language of cultures through light, designing with darkness, and designing lighting for a mixed-use project.
The workshop discussions offer the opportunity for attendees to discover and debate how spaces can be transformed into places, how lighting designers develop their lifelong learning, and how to become aware of lighting-related disciplines.
